The Legend

Brogopogo is Owned and Operated by 2019 Okanagan Beard Festival Winner, Mathew Crawford. We strive to create a superior quality product with minimal ingredients.  Each of our bottles is carefully hand crafted in beautiful Penticton, British Columbia in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. 

Our name Brogopogo is inspired from the Ogopogo, the  Legendary Cryptid said to reside in Okanagan Lake.  The story of the sacred creature of the lake goes back many centuries to the Syilx/Okanagan people who called it "nx̌aʔx̌ʔitkʷ" (n-ha-ha-it-koo), which means “Spirit of the Lake.” The creature was depicted in petroglyphs and other forms of art as an aquatic serpent. Although nx̌aʔx̌ʔitkʷ is a spirit it can also take on a physical form.

In recent years the Ogopogo has become a symbol for tourism in the Okanagan Valley, however, this sacred creature still serves as reminder that we should take care of the water, land, and the environment.  Whether Ogopogo is an actual animal or not, in 1989 it was listed under the BC Wildlife Act, making it illegal to hunt or disturb the species.
